Mark S. Heymann

Chief Executive Officer

Mark Heymann is a founding partner and the chairman and CEO of UniFocus, one of the largest performance management firms in the service sector. He brings to his position more than 35 years of expertise in the industry, and in hospitality in particular.

Mark previously was founder and president of the Heymann Group, Inc., a consulting, software and asset advisory company that was the first to relate labor management to quality service in the hotel industry. For 15 years, HGI delivered bottom-line results to clients including Xanterra Resorts, Omni Hotels, Orient Express Hotels, and Loews Hotels.  Under Mark’s leadership, HGI pioneered the development of Labor Management System technology, and, in 1991, it introduced the resource and labor management software program Watson R.M.™ 

In 1998, Mark coordinated HGI’s merger with Strategic Quantitative Solutions to create UniFocus, the first company to deliver the full array of management systems for the hospitality industry. UniFocus innovations have brought it first to market with automated scheduling, touch-screen time clocks, and task-based labor in meetings and conventions, and it was also the first in the industry to guarantee returns on investments. Its MEETINGScope product was the first to include a multi-tier survey process to support the overall relationship with the meeting planner throughout the sales and planning period.

Today, UniFocus provides the most comprehensive workforce management systems and financial tools available on the market, including applications and services for labor management, time and attendance, and integrated survey solutions. Its platform is cloud-based, with mobile applications for iOS, Android and Windows Mobile OS.

Mark is routinely tapped by leading industry forums and publications for his expertise in staff and strategic planning, managerial performance, and measurement systems. In recent months, he has shared his insights as a panelist at the Hotel Management Singapore Summit and as a contributing author for Hotel Executive magazine.  He holds a B.A. in economics from Brown University and an M.S. in business from Columbia University.

Kenneth J. Heymann

Chief Operating Officer

A 30-year hospitality industry veteran, Ken Heymann oversees all business operations at UniFocus. He is an expert on organizational development, change and quality management.

Ken was a founding partner of the Heymann Group, Inc., a consulting and asset advisory company formed in 1983. In 1998, HGI merged with Strategic Quantitative Solutions to create UniFocus, establishing one of the largest performance management firms in the service industry.

Over the course of his career, Ken has supervised major software and consulting projects in the areas of budgeting, forecasting, staff planning, quality management, and information systems for numerous organizations. These include, among others, Marriott International Hotels, Loews Hotels, KSL Resorts, Hilton Worldwide, and Fairmont Hotels and Resorts.

Ken has contributed to such industry publications as The Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, The Bottom line, Lodging Hospitality, and Hospitality Technology. He authored a chapter on Managing Change in Leadership and Quality Management, published by the Educational Institute of the AH&LA. He is the former chairman of the Board of Governors of the College of Merchandising, Hospitality, and Tourism at the University of North Texas and has taught at UNT as an adjunct faculty member.

Ken received his B.A. degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He holds an M.S. in Education from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.A. in Human Resource Development from the George Washington University.

Joe Sullivan

Chief Information Officer

Joe Sullivan is an owner and the chief information officer of UniFocus.  He is responsible for leading innovation and design of the company’s software solutions, which represent the most comprehensive workforce management systems and financial tools in the service industry.

Joe’s extensive experience spans hotel-focused technology, hotel/condo operations, general accounting software, statistics, software design, and database development. He was previously co-founder of Telman Software in 1996, and served as its chief operating officer and chief information officer until its merger with UniFocus in 2000.

From 1988 to 1996, Joe was the management information systems d

irector for Vista Host Hotels. He was also a founding member of Sheldt & Sullivan, a consulting and computer sales company.

Joe earned a B.A in systems science from the University of West Florida.


Barry Kaplan

Sr. Vice President, Organizational Development

Barry Kaplan has managed UniFocus’ Organizational Development activities since joining the company in 2011, bringing 25 years of training experience.

Barry previously worked as director of training with the Heymann Group before leaving to lead organizational improvement activities in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia. During his absence, he also worked at Bowstreet Inc., and Groove networks prior to managing the Global Training Development efforts at Symantec.

An eight-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, and winner of the prestigious Navy Achievement Medal, Barry received his M.A. in Adult Learning/Continuing Education from the University of Phoenix.

Robert Anderson


Robert Anderson came to UniFocus in early 2011. After beginning his career in public accounting, he served in financial leadership and consulting roles for several closely-held companies. Robert brings more than two decades of diverse experience to UniFocus, including construction, soft goods, and professional services. 

Robert obtained his B.B.A. in accounting from the University of Northern Iowa, and is an active CPA (Texas) and CMA.



David Phillips

Executive Vice President, Business Development

David has over 20 years of experience in driving company growth through HCM/PR analysis for  clients. His expertise is in business process flow analysis, based on industry benchmarks, in Workforce Management/HCM/PR/Time and Labor. He has thorough experience directing implementation and in project management, and assurance of meeting client expectations while staying within budget.

As an executive with UniFocus, David manages Business Development, Sales and Marketing, and developing 3rd party relationships.  His overall responsibilities include contract negotiations, P&L management/monitoring, maintaining budgets and overall responsibility of company vision and direction.

David earned his Bachelor of Science in Management and Accounting from Central Connecticut State University.

George Harth

Vice President Organizational Effectiveness

George brings 25+ years’ experience helping clients gain value from large-scale business transformation projects to UniFocus.  As principal inventor of “Systems, Program Product, and Methods for Organization Realignment”, a patented rapid organizational transformation process, George’s system design and project management expertise are complemented by team management, change leadership, executive coaching, mentoring, and analytical skills that will facilitate UniFocus clients’ global implementations.

The US Department of Labor’s LIFT (Labor Investing for Tomorrow) award recognized the team George led for their role in crafting a process that transformed a global CPG company through “a rekindled desire for success, a strong competitive spirit, and a recognition that future winners are based on team effort.” (CEO Comments, Annual Report).

Accountable for the design, development and implementation of comprehensive change management methodologies tailored to the world’s largest oil producer’s SAP projects, George has international experience as well as hands-on familiarity of the issues challenging the hospitality industry from his background as a consultant to and operations manager in hotels.
